RealCost ("we", "the extension") helps Canadian shoppers see estimated prices including taxes and environmental handling fees on supported retailer websites.
What we collect
Always (local on your device)
- Your province and extension settings (Chrome storage.sync when sync is enabled)
- Optional local product history of pages you viewed with RealCost active
- Reliability diagnostics when price extraction fails (URL, retailer, timestamp — stored locally)
When you sign in to RealCost
- Email and account credentials (handled by our authentication service; Google sign-in uses Chrome identity)
- Product views you choose to sync: product name, URL, retailer, sticker price, eco-fee, tax, and estimated real total
- Dashboard usage tied to your account
When you report a mismatch or send feedback
- Product URL, prices, eco-fee details, province, optional note, extension version
- Copied to your clipboard and/or opened in your email client; stored locally
- If you configure a webhook URL, that report is sent to your endpoint
- Feedback form: optional email and the message you submit
When you join the waitlist
- Email address (required) and optional name, stored so we can invite you to closed beta / Unlisted access
What we do not collect
- Payment card numbers or checkout credentials
- Passwords for retailer accounts
- Full page content beyond product pricing metadata
- We do not sell your personal data
Third parties
- Render — hosts the RealCost API and dashboard
- Retailer websites — the extension reads public product page content in your browser; we do not proxy shopping through our servers for the overlay
- Google — optional “Continue with Google” in Settings (Chrome identity)
Data retention
Local data stays until you clear extension storage or uninstall. Cloud data is retained while your account is active; you may request deletion via dashboard settings.
Your choices
- Use the overlay without signing in (local-only mode)
- Disable the extension per retailer in Settings
- Clear history in Settings
- Uninstall the extension to remove local data
Children
RealCost is not directed at children under 13.
Changes
We may update this policy. Material changes will be reflected in the extension version notes and on this page.
